Mentoring Skills

Audience:

Any participant in a mentoring program.

Duration:

Half day

Brief Description:

There is both a management and employee version of this program that teaches the skills needed to maximize this learning and teaching opportunity.

Objectives for Management:

Participants will be able to:
  • Identify the purpose of the mentoring (Enculturation? Skills development? High potential?).
  • Identify the role of the mentor and mentee.
  • List the variety of tasks and behaviors that are appropriate for a mentor.
  • Create a mentoring plan for a specific employee.
  • Conduct a mentoring session.
  • Measure success of the mentoring effort with an individual.

Objectives for Employees:

Participants will be able to:
  • Identify the purpose of the mentoring (Enculturation? Skills development? High potential?).
  • Identify the role of the mentor and mentee.
  • List the variety of tasks and behaviors that are appropriate for a mentor and the mentee.
  • Identify areas for discussion.
  • Describe ways to work with a mentor that are mutually satisfactory.
